Tracking A Few Showers Before An Improving Weekend.

The cold front which helped to trigger strong to severe storms late yesterday across the Pioneer Valley has weakened and stalled over southeast MA. This cold front will likely become the trigger for a few scattered showers or thunderstorms to form later this afternoon across Bristol, Plymouth and Barnstable counties. These areas, including along the south coast have dewpoints in the upper 60's to near 70 which will help to fuel the scattered afternoon convection.

On the less humid side of the front, abundant sunshine will rapidly warm the temperatures into the 80's with the dewpoint gradually falling during the afternoon with a less humid feel to the air. With temps already in the 70's near 80 at 9 AM...it will not take much to push the temps into the mid-upper 80's for highs. Areas like Foxboro, Attleboro, Taunton and Bridgewater will approach 90. Local seabreezes will help to keep it a tad cooler at the beaches...but mid 80's at the beaches are likely with mainly a landbreeze in place. The swimming has been awesome at the beach with water temps now approaching 70. Nice to have such nice water this early in the season. It has been a summer joy lately and one which promises to keep going!

BUT we do have a bit of weather to watch. With this stalled boundary to our south, winds will be turning onshore for a cooler easterly wind for Friday. A cooler day can be expected because of this set up with highs mostly in the mid 70's. Clouds will be increasing ahead of an area of low pressure which will be riding up along this front.  Energy sliding in from the Ohio Valley in combination with a tropical wave which is  forming in the Gulf. This moisture is going to be directed up the east coast along this stalled front which will help to triggers showers and thunderstorms.

A wave of low pressure will gather steam along this stalled front across the mid-Atlantic states tomorrow and track along the south coast Friday night. The area of low pressure will pull off the coast early Saturday morning and take it's showers and thunderstorms with it. While the heaviest rain will track just south of us, a few localized tropical downpours with embedded thunderstorms will be possible between Late Friday afternoon into early Saturday morning.

Low pressure pulls away with some partial sunshine & less humidity arriving Saturday afternoon with temps in the Lwr 80's. There is the potential for an afternoon thunderstorm.  High pressure becomes fully established Sunday with sunshine in the mid 80's on average. A cold front will approach Monday with warming SW ahead which will keep temps warm and muggy in the upper 80's. Chance of a shower or thunderstorm with it's passage Monday night-early Tuesday with drier, cooler and less humid seasonal air to arrive for the midweek to end of the week. Plenty of great summer weather to enjoy!
