Track Work Expected To Impact Commuter Rail Service Through Summer
BOSTON (CBS) - Amtrak's Northeast Corridor Rail Tie Replacement Project is underway in Boston and it's going to be tying up MBTA commuter rail lines for the summer.
The work, which will extend from Back Bay Station to Forest Hills, will impact service on the Fairmount, Franklin, Needham and Providence/Stoughton lines.
The project is excepted to last the summer and be completed by mid-September.
During the project, inbound morning peak-hour trains will not stop at Ruggles Station.
In addition, the MBTA is tweaking summer schedules on those lines in order to ease congestion around South Station.

All outbound, including evening peak-hour, trains will operate to Ruggles.
Ruggles-bound passengers will be able to access free transfer services from South Station and Back Bay Station.
The 'T' will have extra staff on hand to deal with any service issues.
