Toyota Files Lawsuit Against Lexus Studios In Somerville
SOMERVILLE (CBS) -- Who would've thought that a small wedding photography business in Somerville would draw the ire of a massive car corporation, but it has.
And you can figure out why: Lexus Studios has nothing to do cars.
"We are wedding photographers. We don't sell cars," says Paolo Pacheco, the owner.
But the name is not making Toyota happy, which owns the luxury car brand Lexus. Toyota is now taking Lexus Studios to court, claiming copyright infringement.
"We went to the state in 2011, to incorporate, under the name Lexus Studios and we got permission," Pacheco says.
"We Love the name. In Latin, it means power, or the best of something", says Pacheco's wife and business partner Julia.
So for now, Lexus Studios will hire a lawyer to do battle with Toyota. It's David versus Goliath because, as Paolo says "We don't sell cars, but we are the best wedding photographers around."
