BOSTON - A tow truck driver is recovering after he was stabbed multiple times Thursday night in an apparent road rage incident. The suspect, 40-year-old John Burgo of Brockton, appeared in Brighton court Friday with a blue dress shirt covering his face.

Burgo is facing attempted murder charges, accused of stabbing the tow truck driver in the chest and leg on Cambridge Street in Allston. Police arrested Burgo a short time later.

Prior towing incident

The police report indicates a possible motive, stating that the victim and suspect had an issue with a towing incident on Tuesday, and that Burgo returned on Thursday to confront the victim.

Javier Rivas owns Brighton Towing and says the victim had only been on the job for a few days and is expected to be OK. "The gentleman come out and opened the door and started [stabbing], so that happened," Rivas said.

According to the police report, an MBTA bus driver told police he saw the suspect approach the driver's side of the tow truck and began to argue with the victim.

The suspect then allegedly punched the victim in the face, the witness told police. According to the police report, the victim "proceeded to get out of the tow truck and began to physically fight on the street when the incident occurred."

Incident captured on MBTA bus camera

Police reviewed camera footage from the MBTA bus which was directly behind the tow truck. Burgo was seen holding a knife in the video, according to police.
