Roche on T&R: Do Red Sox Start Lavarnway In Game 162?
The Red Sox were able to hold the lead on Tuesday night to stay tied with Tampa Bay for the wild card heading into the final game of the regular season. The Sox got help from rookie catcher Ryan Lavarnway who hit his first two major league homers in the the win.
Dan Roche from WBZ-TV spoke with Toucher & Rich about the win, Lavarnway inspirational performance and Jon Lester taking the mound for game 162.
Ryan Lavarnway's reputation was that he didn't have what it takes to catch in the majors. After last night's great performance do you ride the hot hand and start Lavarnway in a must win game? If you're Terry Francona how can you start Lavarnway over Jarrod Saltalamacchia based on the performance in one game?
The person that the Sox really need to be able to count on is Jon Lester, who is 1-3 in the month of September with a 5.96 ERA. Will pitching with only 3 days rest hurt his performance and is there a chance that he might be hurt?
The guys discussed all this and more with Dan Roche.
