Toucher & Rich: Shawn Thornton On Celebrating The Cup
The city of Boston and the Bruins are still reveling in the Stanley Cup win.
Toucher & Rich spoke with Shawn Thornton about the players partying at Foxwoods, the large bill that they racked up and who texted them to come down.
"I got it from Ed Kane, said I'd love to have you, come on down. The bottle of champagne was a gift from those guys. He sent me a picture of it. I was like that's pretty cool, it's very nice and unnecessary, but thank you very much. I don't want to say how much we paid. It wasn't 156...they really took care of us down there."
They also talked about Brad Marchand since winning the Cup and a photo of him that appeared in Thursday's Boston Herald where he had just two of his shirt buttons buttoned and sunglasses on indoors.
"Me and Mr. Marchand I think are going to have a sit down at lunch today. I'm not even kidding."
"Do a couple buttons up. Take the sun glasses off. I don't think it was very sunny in there," was Thornton's advice to his teammate.
This Cup is Shawn's second, the first came while he was a member of the Anaheim Ducks. The guys discussed how Boston's celebration parade and Anaheim celebration compare.
"There was about 1.38 million more people at this one. We had a night out and we went to Cannery. We walked in and no one even said anything. No cheer, no nothing. We walked right upstairs, no big deal. This time we were at Tia's and this helicopter flying overhead just hoping to get a peak of it. It's definitely a bigger deal here."
Mark Recchi retired after the Cup win and Toucher & Rich wanted to know if Thornton will have an A on his jersey next season? If not who deserves it more?
"Andy Ference has been around a lot time too. We have a lot of leaders in that locker room. If I get it, it will be an honor. I don't need the letter to lead; it won't be the end-all-be-all."
Thornton is hoping to get the Stanley Cup trophy for two days, one to take around his hometown in Canada and the other to have a party in Boston. He said he would likely have to stay in a hotel if he gets his day in Boston, since his doorbell has not stopped ringing since the Bruins won the Cup.
