Toucher & Rich: Sean McAdam On Gonzalez Playing The Field
It has been a topic of discussion since these NL road games started, will the Red Sox put Adrian Gonzalez in right field to get David Ortiz's bat in the lineup? Well the word is that tonight is the night it's going to happen.
Sean McAdam spoke with Toucher & Rich about Gonzalez playing in right, the team's offensive struggles and could the Sox make a move before the deadline?
There are some that think putting the Sox risk Gonzalez getting injured by moving him from first to right field. What does McAdam think of the decision?
"When you look at the top gun offense that they've been featuring for the last week I think they've sort of decided that it can't get any worse and to roll the dice a little bit," McAdam told the morning crew.
What about the way Gonzalez will play in the outfield, will he give it his all or hold back for fear of injury?
"I think they [Red Sox] can make all those speeches about don't try to be a hero, just keep the ball in front of you, make the routine plays, all of that. And all of that goes out the window the minute there's a line drive that's heading away from him and he's got to close some ground," McAdam said.
The guys moved on to talk about trades. Will does McAdam see the Sox making a move before the July 31st trade deadline?
"I still believe that what they are going to attack first is the bullpen and given the importance of that over the long season and see if they can't get an arm in here to help them in the late innings...It would stand to reason that they could use a right handed bat. I think the problem that they run into, and you're starting to see this, is they might not be able to add payroll," McAdam said of the possibility of the Sox making moves.
