Toucher & Rich: Peter Abraham On Erik Bedard
BOSTON (CBS) - The trade deadline has come and gone and the Red Sox acquired lefty Erik Bedard in a three-team deal.
Toucher & Rich spoke with Red Sox insider Peter Abraham Monday about the deal for Bedard, Clay Buchholz and picking up more help off of waivers.
It doesn't look like the Sox had to give up a lot to get Bedard.
He has been dominant in his career at times, but he has struggled with injuries this year. If he's healthy where does he fit in to this rotation?
"Well, the good thing, as far as his health goes, he had a knee injury, he didn't have an arm injury. So the Red Sox are pretty confident that once he gets over the rustiness, he's not going to be nearly as bad as he was on Friday," Abraham said.
"But, this is not the same guy that he was back in 2007 with Baltimore. He's had all kind of different things wrong with him since, including his arm and he's not going to be that kind of guy who was one of the best lefties in the game at that point. If he can be 75-percent of that guy, he's better than anything else the Red Sox have as an option at this point beyond Jon Lester and Josh Beckett," said Abraham.
