Toucher & Rich: LaVar Arrington On Haynesworth, 'Prepare For Worst, Expect The Best'
BOSTON (CBS) - Former Washington Redskins linebacker and current D.C. sports broadcaster LaVar Arrington joined Toucher & Rich to discussed Albert Haynesworth becoming a Patriot, the defensive tackle's personality and desire to play the game.
When the Patriots acquired Haynesworth, most were surprised given his past. What did Arrington think when he heard that the defensive tackle was headed to New England?
"I guess the thing that went through my head, if anybody is going to be able to have any kind of success with that bonehead of a person, it's Bill Belichick," Arrington said. "For two seconds, I was really upset he ended up on there, because he needed to go to a team like Cleveland."
The guys went on to talk about Haynesworth's personality. What makes him so strange?
"I really don't know, when we first signed Haynesworth here in D.C., there were a lot of mixed emotions about him. But the one thing that everyone could find common ground on him was that the guy could play."
They went on to discuss Haynesworth's desire to play football. It was evident in Washington, and even a little bit in Tennessee that he would just give up on plays. If the desire isn't there, does it really matter what coach you give him? Does Arrington think he still has the desire to play the game?
"That's a hard one to answer, I'm going to be honest with you. But you guys lost a fifth round pick for, two years ago he was one of the most dominant defenders in the NFL... You guys don't need to worry about it, you have a strong locker room presence."
