Toucher & Rich: Greg Bedard: Haynesworth Belichick's 'Biggest Chore'
The New England Patriots have reportedly acquired veteran defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth from the Washington Redskins. The Pats have traded a 2013 fifth-round draft choice for Haynesworth, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Toucher & Rich spoke with Greg Bedard from the Boston Globe about the trade, how much is owed to Haynesworth financially and his attitude.
Haynesworth signed a 7-year, $100 million deal with the Redskins in 2009. How much do the Patriots owe him?
"It's just the base salary and $5.4 million, if he's right, that's a bargain for Albert Haynesworth," Bedard said.
Unfortunately for the past two years, Haynesworth has reportedly been difficult and lazy.
Does Bedard think that he'll be a different player under Bill Belichick?
"Well I definitely have my doubts because I think this is, out of all the malcontents Bill Belichick has brought in here in his time with the Patriots, I think this is his biggest chore," were Bedard's thoughts on the matter.
One thing that Haynesworth was upset about in the past was playing in the middle of the 3-4 defense in Washington.
With all the different ways the Patriots defense presents itself, there might be opportunity for him play in different places.
Will this help with attitude?
"I think that will help. I mean the Patriots do vary things up front and Belichick will explain to Haynesworth why this is going to be good for him, maybe better than some coaches have in the past," said Bedard.
The guys also discussed what might happen if the defensive lineman doesn't get with the program and the Patriots decide to dump him.
