Toucher & Rich: Dave Goucher Says Bruins Are 'Up Against It' With Injuries
Add Tuukka Rask's name to the growing list of injured Bruins players. Rask left Saturday's game against the New York Islanders in the second period with an injury, the extent of which should be known later on Monday. The Bruins ended up dropping that game to the Islanders 3-2 and then lost Sunday 4-3 to the New York Rangers.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Bruins radio play-by-play man Dave Goucher spoke with Toucher & Rich about all the injuries the Bruins are dealing with.
"They're up against it," Goucher said. "They've got 17 games in 31 days this month, and I think they were planning on really trying to divvy up the goaltending between Thomas and Rask, just because of the workload. They haven't had a guy play a game for them in net in almost three years that hasn't been Tuukka Rask or Tim Thomas. You have to go back to Manny Fernandez [in April 2009].
"They're going to have to figure something out, but they've got real limited options now."
Regarding the Bruins' overall play, which has them on a 6-9-1 stretch since the beginning of February and a current two-game losing skid.
"They were in a bit of a funk. You can point a lot of it back to the [Nathan] Horton injury [on Jan. 22] where they had started to slip a little bit," Goucher said. "They lose two of their top forwards in Horton and [Rich] Peverley and just at the same time, their game has started to fall off. And now it has snowballed on them, with [Andrew] Ference and [Daniel] Paille and Rask [injured]. ...These regulation losses are what kills them. Just get to overtime and get a point, but they haven't been able to do that. They're going to have to try to find a way to keep the ship afloat here over the next little while."
Goucher also discussed Brian Rolston's role on the team and Tim Thomas' comments about the lighting at Madison Square Garden.
