Roche On Toucher & Rich: Jon Lester, David Ortiz & Previewing Game 6
Dan Roche of WBZ-TV called in Tuesday morning from St. Louis to discuss Game 5 and the Red Sox pulling ahead 3-2 in the World Series. The conversation started with Jon Lester, who pitched another gem Monday night. The Sox ace went deep into the 8th inning, allowed only one run on four hits while striking out seven. Roche put into historical perspective Jon Lester's postseason performance.
"He's up there in Red Sox lore now, arguably one of the best left handers of all time to come through here. Right now they're on the brink of what they're trying to do, but you can't look back on Jon Lester and say 'What did he do wrong?' - he hasn't done anything wrong this postseason," said Roche. "He just goes out every single time and keeps his team in the game and gives them a chance to win. It's been pretty special to watch."
Toucher and Rich also got Roche's opinion on what John Farrell will do at the catcher spot, saying that it'll probably be David Ross the rest of the way.
"Nothing against Salty [Jarrod Saltalamacchia] but Ross has certainly been one of the guys this World Series, just how good he's handled the staff and followed through on pitching guys and getting them to do what the Red Sox wanted them to do."
Roche also offered up analysis on the Cardinals decision to pitch to David Ortiz and gave his outlook on the rest of the series, give it a listen below:
