Toucher & Rich: Clark Kellogg Likes This Providence College Friars Team

BOSTON (CBS) - CBS Sports' lead college basketball analyst Clark Kellogg joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich Wednesday morning to talk about the upcoming NCAA tournament and how one local team is built to shake up this year's brackets.

The Providence College Friars are a #6 seed in the East region of the bracket and play the winner of the #11 Dayton versus #11 Boise State play-in game Wednesday night. The Friars have had an overwhelmingly positive season, going 11-7 in the Big East and 22-10 overall.

"[Head coach] Ed Cooley is just doing a fantastic job there in terms of moving that program forward," said Kellogg.

In his fourth year of coaching at Providence, Cooley has brought his troops back to the Big Dance for the second straight year in hopes of earning his first NCAA tournament win with the Friars. Last season, Providence won the Big East tournament before narrowly dropping their first tournament game to North Carolina, 79-77.

"They have perhaps the best two-man tandem backcourt in the country in LaDontae Henton and Kris Dunn," said Kellogg.

Henton, the 6'6" senior, leads the Friars in scoring and rebounds per game at 19.7 and 6.4 , respectively. His teammate, Kris Dunn, has also stuffed the stat sheets all year, averaging 15.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 2.8 steals per contest.

Both backcourt ballers along with the rest of the PC Friar squad will be needed to dispatch their first opponent, especially if Dayton prevails, as they advanced to the Elite 8 last year as an 11-seed.

"If Dayton advances, I'm excited to see the Dayton-Providence matchup. I think it could be one of the better games of the tournament," said Kellogg.
