Toucher & Rich: Chiarelli Describes Soderberg's Game, Provides Positive Update On Bergeron
The Boston Bruins are just one point out of first place in the Northeast Division, 10 games away from beginning a postseason run, yet fans remain entranced by the idea of the anticipated arrival of Carl Soderberg.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli joined Toucher & Rich on Wednesday, and while he said nothing is "firm or concrete" in adding the 27-year-old to the roster, he did describe the type of game he could bring to the Bruins.
"He's just kind of taken off," Chiarelli said of Soderberg. "He's always been a high-profile prospect. He had a bit of a downturn in his career because of the injury and because of whatever happened in North America. But he's a good player, big strong kid, shoots the puck, protects the puck, good two-way player. He's played on the Swedish national team with [Gabriel[ Landeskog and [Patric] Hornqvist, had a strong line.
"Once he gets up and running, he'll help us at some point, if we end up signing him."
Chiarelli said if Soderberg does join the Bruins, he will be eligible for the postseason, even if he does not get into any regular-season games.
Chiarelli also gave an update on Patrice Bergeron, who suffered a concussion last week. While it'd be hard to put a real timetable on Bergeron's recovery, the news did appear positive.
"I've met with Patrice. He's been working out. He's on his road to recovery, so it looks good," Chiarelli said.
