Toronto FC And Revolution Play To Scoreless Tie
FOXBOROUGH (AP) - Toronto FC and the New England Revolution battled to a scoreless tie Wednesday night.
New England (3-7-5) ran its winless streak to five matches (0-4-1), while Toronto (2-5-9) extended its own winless slump to seven (0-2-5).
The Revolution had 11 corner kicks but could not put a shot past Toronto goalie Stefan Frei, who made two good saves on midfielder Shalrie Joseph in the 50th and 60th minutes. Joseph also sent a blast over the cross bar in the first minute of stoppage time.
Toronto couldn't solve Revs keeper Matt Reis, who watched Alan Gordon's header off of a Nathan Sturgis corner kick in the 85th minute sail wide left of the post.
New England, which has the fewest goals (11) in MLS this season, had two legitimate scoring chances in the first half -- a header by Rajko Lekic in the third minute and Chris Tierney's long drive from outside the penalty box in the 20th.
