Powerful storms bring flooding, tornado warning to Massachusetts
BOSTON - Powerful storms moved through Massachusetts Friday, drenching towns and flooding streets.
Part of Route 2 was closed due to flooding as drivers crawled through the water.
"It's been just storm after storm after storm, it's not fun, it's supposed to be sunny," said driver Marina Sierra.
Pea-sized hail fell in parts of Lunenburg and a tornado warning was issued for Worcester County. It was lifted shortly before 5 p.m. Severe thunderstorm and flash flood warnings were also issued in parts of the state Friday.
Parts of western Massachusetts have undergone serious flooding in the past week from heavy rains. On Friday, major flash flooding and washed-out highways closed roads from Deerfield to Conway. Police said some roads could be closed for days, if not longer.
Due to the severe weather, the Luke Combs concert at Gillette Stadium was temporarily paused, and fans were asked to seek shelter.
Friday night's Red Sox game against the New York Mets at Fenway Park was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game will resume on Saturday at 2:10 p.m.
