Torey Krug: 'Every Game Is A Big Game'
BOSTON (CBS) - On Thursday afternoon down at the TD Garden Pro Shop Studio, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand were joined by Bruins defenseman Torey Krug for his weekly interview to discuss the battle of getting into the playoffs and more.
Things have not been looking good for the Bruins as they've lost five straight games heading into Thursday night's tilt against the Western Conference-leading Anaheim Ducks. After a three-day respite, with Cuts For A Cause mixed in between, Krug acknowledged the time off was definitely needed.
"I think mentally, and obviously physically, playing every other night and three games in four nights, that can be a grind. Mentally it was a good break to get in the flow of things and practice and make sure we're geared up for the games ahead," Krug said.
Fellow blue liner Dougie Hamilton will be out for awhile after having suffered an upper-body injury in the shootout loss against the Florida Panthers on Saturday. However, the Bruins may get some reinforcements with forward David Krecji probable to return to the ice tonight.
"I would imagine that it would take a second for Krecji to adjust, but he's one of the smartest hockey players I've ever seen," Krug told Zolak and Bertrand, indicating it shouldn't take him long to find his groove. Krejci is expected to play wing alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand on the team's second line when he returns.
With nine games left in the season and standing one point behind the Ottawa Senators for the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference, the Bruins must make every game count in order to reach the playoffs.
"Every game is a big game, but we're at a point where we're just focused on ourselves and making sure that we're taking care of our job. You know if we're sitting around looking for help, whether it's hoping another team plays like crap when you play against them or other teams are losing across the league, we're not in that position," Krug added.
For a region that's come to expect their hometown hockey team playing well into April, May and June, let's hope the Bruins can stop the bleeding and defeat the Ducks Thursday night at TD Garden.
