Torey Krug Celebrated Game-Winning Goal With Dinner & 'Homeland'

BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins rookie defenseman Torey Krug came on the Gresh and Zo show Tuesday afternoon for his weekly appearance to talk about his game-winning goal last night against the Penguins and how he celebrated afterwards, as well as his Olympic chances and favorite Thanksgiving foods.

In a game where the Bruins weren't playing their best hockey, the hometown team was nursing a one goal lead in the final seconds when Pens superstar Sidney Crosby evened the score at 3-3 with 0.3 seconds left to play. A video review clearly showed the goal in net before time ran out.

However, just 34 seconds into overtime Torey Krug took a cross-ice pass from Brad Marchand and delivered a rocket from the left face-off dot over the glove of Marc-Andre Fleury. It was Krug's first NHL overtime winner and seventh goal of the season — tying him for the NHL lead among defensemen.

Zolak wanted to know where Krug partied after the game, and which bar he took over. Much to the disappointment of female fans throughout New England, the 22-year-old spent the rest of the evening with his wife.

"I went home and had dinner with my wife. She made a nice dinner so we enjoyed it and then we watched the most recent episode of 'Homeland'," Krug told Gresh and Zo.

Funny, because Hardy did the exact same thing with his wife - save for that small part about scoring the game-winning goal.

In addition to Monday night being a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals, the chatter heading into Boston's meeting with the Pittsburgh Penguins was about Torey Krug's chances of making the U.S. Olympic team.

Krug told Gresh and Zolak that he doesn't pay much attention to that stuff and he's "just trying to help the Bruins win hockey games."

He added, "It would be an unbelievable thing to be a part of, but I don't even think about it."

We also fielded some questions from our listeners using the CBS Audio Roadshow app's "10 Seconds Of Glory" feature.

One fan wanted to know Torey's favorite hockey player of all time. The Bruins defenseman chose...two other Bruins defensemen.

"That's pretty easy. There's two guys that come right to my mind when you ask that question, and who else but Ray Bourque and Bobby Orr? Two of the greatest defensemen all time and spent it right here in Boston."

Lastly, turkey day is upon us so what are Torey's favorite and least favorite food items on Thanksgiving?

"My favorite has got to be sweet potato casserole," said Krug. "And the least favorite is that cranberry sauce or whatever."
