Top-Ranking Rep. Says More Arrests Possible In Boston Marathon Bombing Investigation
BOSTON (CBS) - A top-ranking Republican Congressman says he wouldn't be surprised if the feds made more arrests related to the Boston Marathon bombings.
As the investigation continues to unfold, Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan made it clear on Thursday that he's not convinced that Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were acting alone.
"We know that there are other persons of interest in this investigation that we haven't completely come to a conclusion on," Rogers told reporters on Thursday.
Rogers criticized what he called as a rush to read Dzhokhar Tsarnaev his Miranda rights, saying the 19-year-old could have given more information about the potential attack on Times Square and whether others may have been directly or indirectly involved in the Boston Marathon bombings.
Rogers, who is chairman of the House Committee on Intelligence, reiterated his concerns numerous times on Thursday.
He told CNN there's still a lot that's unknown about the time leading up to the attack.
"I believe after seeing everything that I've seen, we just don't know enough about that six months or so in Russia – what happened there," he said. "And we also know there are persons of interest we need to talk to in this investigation."
Rogers noted that some of those persons of interest live in the Boston area. He added that he's not ready to draw any firm conclusions at this point.
The Boston Herald also quoted Rogers as saying he does not believe this is over.
"There's going to be more arrests, I do believe," he reportedly said. "I hear a lot of definitive statements out there that it was just these two men and it's over, but I will tell you I hear these briefings every day, and I don't think this is over."
