Tom Brady: No Extra Motivation When Facing Colts
FOXBORO (CBS) -- Tom Brady claims to feel the same human emotions as everyone else, but he also says he feels no extra incentive to beat the Colts this Sunday night in Indianapolis.
The Colts, of course, were the team that blew the whistle on the Patriots for suspicious activity regarding football deflation -- a complaint that launched a thousand NFL ships and forced Brady to spend his summer in federal court.
Brady won that case, of course, and he's played excellently through the games for which he was supposed to be suspended.
It was quite the ordeal for the 38-year-old quarterback, but he said Wednesday that he's approaching Sunday's game like any other.
"I try certainly to be a professional with how I approach every week. You really put a lot into every week, no matter who you're playing. All of these games are important. They're all hard to win," Brady said. "You really put a lot into every week, and if you don't, then you don't have much opportunity to win. I just think you try to approach each week as a professional, and you give it your all, you do the best you can do, and hopefully it leads to positive outcomes."
Still, there must be some added motivation, right?
"I'm always pretty motivated, regardless of the opponent, regardless of the team or the week," Brady said. "They're all important. There's so few of those that you get the opportunity in your life. So I don't take them for granted."
Earlier, Bill Belichick faced a similar line of questioning, and the head coach stressed that this week is no different from any other.
"I mean, look, it's the same questions every week. We're getting ready to play a game on Sunday," Belichick said. "We're going to do the best we can to prepare for it and be ready to go and perform well on Sunday night. That's what we do.
Given the way recent games have gone between the Patriots and Colts, Brady hasn't necessarily needed any added motivation. The Patriots have outscored the Colts 189-73 in their last four meetings, as the Colts have simply been unable to compete.
So while Brady may be just fine with his standard level of inspiration heading into Sunday, surely he's a human, with human emotions. Right?
"I'm a human, there's no doubt," Brady said. "Definitely human."
