Tom Brady Honors Late Mentor Tom Martinez On Facebook
By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- Sunday marked four years since Tom Brady lost his friend Tom Martinez, one of the most important mentors the quarterback had in his life. Brady paid his respects to the man he described as a "world-class coach, mentor and friend" in a Facebook post late Sunday night.
Martinez passed away on his 66th birthday, February 21, 2012, when he had a heart attack during a dialysis session. He had been Brady's personal throwing coach since they met at the College of San Mateo in California in 1992 when Brady was just 15 years old. He garnered the nickname "QB Whisperer" for his work with Brady and other QBs, including Hall-of-Famer John Elway.
Brady moved on to former major-league pitcher Tom House as his new throwing coach in 2013, but clearly he will never forget the massive influence Martinez had on his life.
