Tom Brady Threw Five TDs In One Quarter Seven Years Ago Today
By Jeremiah Delgado
Moss. Moss. Faulk. Welker. Welker. These are the names of the players that Tom Brady threw a touchdown pass to in one quarter back on October 18, 2009. Yeah, that's five touchdowns passes. In one quarter.
Gillette Stadium was an absolute winter wonderland on this date seven years ago and the Tennessee Titans did not know what they were getting themselves into. They were already 0-5 on the season and had Kerry Collins as their starting quarterback.
This was just not going to be a good day for the Titans.
It all unraveled for Tennessee during the second quarter when Brady just couldn't stop connecting with his receivers in the end zone. His five touchdown passes set a record for most touchdown passes thrown in a quarter and he finished the game with a total of six.
Brady had more touchdowns thrown than incompletions, going 29-for-34 with 380 passing yards and he finished with a passer rating of 152.8, less than a point shy of a perfect passer rating. This was coming off of a loss against the Broncos in the previous week in which the offense produced just 17 points in a 20-17 OT loss to Denver.
The offense had been a bit stagnant in the first five weeks of the 2009 season and Brady had only thrown for over 300 yards once in that stretch, but he was coming off of a torn ACL he suffered the year before.
It helped that Tennessee had a depleted secondary but certainly no one saw it coming. The Titans lost the game 59-0 and did not muster any type of offense. They were only able to tally 186 totals yards as an offense and those were all rushing yards.
This was a quarter for the ages and one the Titans and former head coach Jeff Fisher would like to strike from their memory.
