Tom Brady Adds Another Lawyer To Team -- Thomas Dupree From Gibson Dunn
BOSTON (CBS) -- Tom Brady's already assembled quite a team of lawyers, with Jeffrey Kessler and Ted Olson already working his case, but he's now adding yet another high-profile name.
On Thursday, Thomas H. Dupree Jr. filed a notice of additional counsel for Tom Brady and the NFLPA in its ongoing case in the Second Circuit against the NFL.
Like Olson, Dupree is a partner at the law firm of Gibson Dunn.
Dupree has extensive experience. His Gibson Dunn bio says he has argued "more than 70 appeals in the federal courts, including in all thirteen circuits as well as the United States Supreme Court." His experience includes arbitration cases, among many others.
He served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General from 2007-09 before rejoining Gibson Dunn.
"Tom is a superb litigator who has the utmost respect of his peers,"Olson said of Dupree upon the latter's return to the firm. "As we continue to handle some of the most high-profile matters involving vital constitutional issues before the United States Supreme Court and other appellate courts around the country, it will be great to have Tom on board."
Some of Dupree's high-profile work includes assisting Olson in the Bush v. Gore Supreme Court case, as well as winning an appeal in the Second Circuit on behalf of Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld. He also "successfully represent[ed] superagent Scott Boras in confidential baseball-related arbitrations" and "successfully represent[ed] Facebook and its CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a federal lawsuit arising from the plaintiff's fraudulent claim of a significant ownership stake in Facebook."
The complete list of lawyers on Thursday's filing includes Olson and Andrew Tulumello of Gibson Dunn, and Kessler, David Greenspan and Steffen Johnson of Winston & Strawn.
Brady and his team of lawyers have until Monday, May 23 to file an official request for an en banc rehearing in the Second Circuit, as the New England Patriots quarterback fights to overturn a four-game suspension issued by the NFL.
