Tire Flies Off Pickup Truck, Damages SUV On I-95 In Lexington
LEXINGTON (CBS) – A tire flew off a pickup truck and damaged two cars on Interstate 95 in Lexington during rush hour Wednesday morning.
State Police say the tire came off a Ford commercial pickup truck around 7:15 a.m. in the southbound lanes and then slammed into a Jeep Compass.
No one was hurt. The pickup truck ended up in the snow off the side of the highway near exit 30.
The Jeep driver, Samantha Vengels, pulled over in the breakdown lane. The SUV ended up with a dented roof and a shattered windshield.
"I froze, like something I wouldn't think would happen on my way to work," Vengels said.
After hitting Vengels' SUV, it hopped over the media and hit a Volkswagen.
"Once it started going into the air I could tell it was going to hit me so I kind of like ducked and tried to see if I could veer off but I knew I couldn't so it hit me," Vengels said.
Both vehicles were towed away. It's still not clear what caused the tire to fall off.
There are no charges at this point in the investigation.
