A mother duck and her nine ducklings were walking near the intersection of Blossom Street and Sunset Road Monday morning when three of the tiny ducklings fell through a sewer grate.

Fortunately Alfonso Velasquez witnessed it and called the Department of Public Works.

"We saw plop, plop, plop.  We saw three of them fall into the sewer grate,"  said Alfonso, a WBZ-TV photographer.

"(They were) tiny enough to fall through a one-and-a-half by one-and-a-half little sewer grate.  There was some worry there for the third one because there was no chirping."

They were able to rescue the ducklings, but the rest of the family apparently got scared during the rescue and took off.

Arlington's animal control officer, Thomas Quintal, brought the ducklings to a local pond and successfully lured the rest of the ducks back for a happy reunion.
