Tim Thomas Likely To Set Single-Season Save Percentage Record

BOSTON (CBS) - Tim Thomas won his 35th game on Saturday, stopping 31 of 32 shots, and finished the game with the best single-season save percentage for a goalie since the NHL began recording the statistic.

Coach Claude Julien said earlier in the week that he was planning to play Thomas for three of the four remaining games.  That means the Bruins goalie would not play in the final game of the season Sunday.  Instead, Tuuka Rask was slated to play goal against New Jersey.

According to NHL.com, if Thomas did not play Sunday, he would finish the season with a .938 save percentage.

That would be an NHL record, edging out former Buffalo Sabres goalie Dominik Hasek's 1998-99 record .937 save percentage.

Thomas, one of the top contenders for the Vezina Trophy, also leads the League in goals against average.
