Thornton With Toucher & Rich: 'Pretty Simple, We Got To Be Better'
The Bruins take on the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at the Garden. Bruins forward Shawn Thornton joined Toucher & Rich to talk about the emotional game against the Hurricanes on Tuesday night, Tim Gleason and fighting.
The Bruins players racked up a total of 70 penalty minutes compared to Carolina's 22 minutes. Carolina's Tim Gleason got under the skin of Nathan Horton, but backed down and drew a penalty when Horton threw down.
"I think Horty thought he was being engaged, I think Gleason slashed him or cross checked him or something. He turned around thought, usually that's go time. I think he thought it was time to fight and then he got tagged with a couple penalties," Thornton said.
"He's probably their toughest guy I think on their roster, but that's not really his job. So I think a lot of times people come knocking on his door even though he plays on their first power play, first penalty kill. He's a pretty decent hockey player, but I think whenever anyone wants to get things going against the Carolina Hurricanes it falls in his lap and that probably not his job," Thornton said of Gleason.
They also went on to discuss players fighting and think about how Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask would have done if he threw down with Carolina goalie Cam Ward.
They also discussed what's going on with this team not winning games.
"It's pretty simple we got to be better. We don't have everyone going every night. I don't think there's anyone that can say they've played their best game yet, other than maybe our goalies," Thornton said.
All this and more with Shawn Thornton.
