Thornton With Toucher & Rich: Horton 'In Good Spirits'
The Bruins got shut out by the New York Rangers 0-3 on Tuesday night and then beat the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout 4-3 on Wednesday night. The B's are now in Winnipeg tonight to take on the Jets.
Shawn Thornton spoke with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich about the team's recent performances, Nathan Horton's status, the reaction of Montreal fans to Zdeno Chara taking a puck to the face and the New York Rangers.
Report: Bruins Make Extension Offers To Four Players
TSN's Bob McKenzie reported that the Bruins have offered Chris Kelly, Shawn Thornton, Gregory Campbell and Daniel Paille contract extensions. What can Thornton tell the guys about his new deal?
"I don't know Bob McKenzie or how he would know anything, but I don't know I haven't talked to my agent yet. So I'll have to give him a call since Bob is in the know more than I am, I suppose."
Has the team offered him a new contract?
"I know they talked, but I have no idea what the details are I've been focusing on playing my agent takes care of all that stuff."
If the McKenzie reports are true and all these guys know they will be returning does this help as the season goes on?
"Yeah I think so, obviously when you have a lot of restricted or unrestricted free agents coming up if you can get that out-of-the-way and off your mind I think it probably takes a little stress off and you can just focus on going out there and playing hockey."
The guys talked about Thornton's future playing the game of hockey. How long does the 34-year-old forward see himself playing?
"I think I have at least two to three good more years in me."
Nathan Horton did not travel with the team because he is still sidelined with a concussion. Does Thornton have any news on his road to recovery?
"I saw him at the rink a few days ago before we left. He's in good spirits, I don't know about his health or how his head is."
In Wednesday's win over the Canadiens in Montreal Zdeno Chara caught a puck to the face and need to leave to get some stitches. When Montreal fans saw the defenseman go down they cheered. What did Thornton think of that reaction by fans?
"The game is the game and you can boo all you want obviously, I don't think when a guy takes a slap shot to the face from a few feet away I don't know if that's a time to start cheering. I'm not sure if it surprises me."
The guys also talked about Thornton's penalty shot against the Jets last time they met and the bad game against the New York Rangers. Have the Rangers taken on the Bruins style of play this year?
