Thornton On Thomas: "It's His Choice Not To Go"
While Zdeno Chara, Tyler Seguin and Tim Thomas are gearing up for all the All-Star festivities this weekend, the rest of the Bruins are enjoying some time off.
Bruins forward Shawn Thornton is relaxing down in Turks and Caicos, but still called in to talk with 98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich on Thursday.
The guys started things off talking about the team's trip to the White House on Monday.
"It was amazing, it was awesome I never thought a poor kid from the 'Dirty Shwa' would ever get a chance to go to the White House. I wasn't sure if they were going to let me in," joked Thornton.
The big story that come out of this trip was that Bruins goalie Tim Thomas didn't attend. What did Thornton have to say about the goalie's absence?
"It's his choice not to go. I think everyone else was extremely happy to be there," he said. "It's not going to cause a distraction in the room or anything like that. We were aware before that he wasn't going. We knew it would kind of create a little bit of a blow back afterwards, but whatever that's his decision."
After Christmas, the team has hit a bit of a lull, but are getting some much needed rest with the All-Star break. When they get back to work, is it time to make that playoff push?
"We'll be refreshed. I'm not sure if it's the playoff push quite yet, usually around March," said Thornton. "I think after everyone having five days off, I'm pretty sure almost everyone went away so should be refreshed and ready to go."
