Red Sox' Thornton Leaves Game VS. D-Backs With Injury
BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox reliever Matt Thornton left Sunday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth inning with an apparent injury.
The left-hander had just thrown an 0-2 pitch to Didi Gregorius when catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, manager John Farrell and a team trainer came jogging out to the mound. No information was immediately available on the nature of the injury.
After a brief conversation at the mound, Farrell signaled for reliever Drake Britton to enter the game.
Thornton, acquired last month from the Chicago White Sox, pitched to one batter before he left the game. Boston won 4-0 behind starting pitcher Felix Doubront's seven shutout innings.
