Third Recent Home Invasion Worries Worcester Residents

WORCESTER (CBS) - Local neighborhoods are on edge after a string of violent home invasions involving men posing as police officers.

There have been at least three attacks in the past three months.

In the latest case on Friday morning, police said two men busted into a home on Randall Street with a handgun drawn claiming to be Worcester police officers and ordered the residents to hit the ground.

WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reports.

When the real police arrived at the scene, they found a woman had been hit in the head with a gun. She and a boy were reportedly held down by one armed man, while his partner in crime tore apart the home.

At the end of November, a similar robbery happened on a nearby street. In that case, the men yelled, "This is police. We're here for a drug raid." Also, earlier that month on Wall Street, which is in a different section of Worcester, there was another home invasion robbery.

Police did make an arrest after the November robberies, but said there were two other suspects they were looking for.

Some neighbors told WBZ-TV they are concerned about the fact that after the men ransacked the home; they reportedly left without taking anything, which raises questions about the motive. This differs from the two earlier cases in November, when items were stolen from the homes.

Neighbors said it's not an area where they normally have to worry about crime.
