Third and Final...

Last night many saw 1-3" inches of fluff but a few spots south of Boston saw 4-5" in some very heavy snow bands.  Boston officially picked up 1.5" making that the biggest snowstorm of the Winter...I use the term "storm" very loosely.  Now, the third storm of the week is on the way and this one will be Boston's new biggest storm of the Winter.

Low pressure will track south of New England during the day tomorrow.  The track will trap cold in Southern New England leading to an almost all snow event...only on Nantucket and maybe the Outer Cape will there be a mix.  In fact, temps will pretty much be in a 20-25 degree range...very cold air means that the snow will be light and fluffy and easy to move around.

Now, looking at the mid levels, they are not that impressive...therefore all snow will have to be generated by warm air advection in low lower levels and lift from the jetstream in the upper levels.  The warm air advection will become increasingly better as the storm develops in our coastal waters in fact there is almost a closed 850mb circulation tomorrow in the early afternoon offshore.  This would put the best lift from the warm air advection over Central and Southern Plymouth and Bristol Counties along with Southern Connecticut and Rhode Island.  I also like the position of the jet streak at 300mb...Southern New England will be in the rear right entrance region which is where you want to be for maximum lift from divergence.  We also are looking at the ratios being quite high...15:1ish and flake size looks pretty large too with good lift in the snow growth zone per BUFKIT.  Thus getting lots of QPF isn't exactly necessary for a healthy snow event.  With that said QPF has been shifty with every run of the models but I think a solid 3-6" with slightly higher amounts in that max warm air advection area in SE Mass is a good bet.  As you head into Northern New England, 1-3" looks good.

It will be an easy storm...very little wind and no coastal concerns.

If you are up to it during the storm take some pics and send them to our facebook page...WBZWeather or find us on Twitter...@ToddWBZ is my handle.  Have a great weekend and enjoy the snow!
