Thieves Bring Kids While Robbing Natick Jewelry Store

NATICK (CBS) - When three women, two men, and three kids entered Kay Pee Jewelers Saturday afternoon, it seemed like they were just browsing.

Two women casually looked at a display case in the back of the store, while a couple of the guys talked to employees at the front counter.

But, the casual manner was a calculated heist.

The men at the front kept the employees distracted while one of the women at the back made her way behind the counter.

WBZ-TV's Alana Gomez reports.

The surveillance video then showed a woman with a baby walking in with some more people, and they crowded the middle of the store.

They blocked the workers' view while a woman moved to the back of the store.

One of the women lifted up a long black skirt just in time to shield the female thief that came back from behind the counter with stolen goods.

Everyone then went back to browsing for awhile before they piled in a dark minivan and raced out of the parking lot.

Kay Pee Jewelers is a family-run business that's been around for 16 years.

Seema Parwani said her in-laws own the store and her husband and brother-in-law were behind the counter when the place was robbed.

"They didn't harm my husband and my brother-in-law and that's the most important thing. My husband's really miserable right now," said Parwani.

Parwani said they're still trying to figure out how much was taken, but so far they believe at least a tray of jewelry and some diamonds were stolen.

"I'm pregnant and I would never put my child through that," said Parwani.

"How could someone even do something like that?"

Neighbors said that the 7-Eleven next door was robbed last week and they are worried about the spike in crime.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope reports.

"This isn't an area that usually happens and now to hear it two weekends in a row is kind of scary," said Nancy Foody, who lives across the street.

Other businesses are nervous about the robberies as well.

"It's scary to think that stuff goes on when we're right here and there's only a few of us here," said Kristin Blease, who manages the Lady of America store in the same plaza.

Police say the green minivan used in the robbery was recovered in Sherborn Sunday evening.

There have been no arrests.
