The Warm-Up Begins

The last full day of Spring is going out with sunshine and warm temperatures. There will be patches of clouds and fog this morning though. Onshore winds have shifted. and now, the wind is originating from the southwest.  Most of the 'burbs will reach 80-85F today. Boston will be in the middle to upper 70s. The coolest spots will be the Outer Cape/Islands hovering around the upper 60s to lower 70s.

Get your A/C ready!  An upper level ridge will stand strong throughout Wednesday and Thursday. Summer rings in for '12 ~7pm on Wednesday evening.  We are in the midst of the longest days of the year.  Additionally, the Summer season is going to begin with a 'hot' stretch.  It will be hazy, hot, and humid (aka 'Triple-H') both days.  Highs will be in the middle 90s on Wednesday and 95-100F on Thursday, which is expected to break several records around the region.  Heat indices may climb as high as 100!  June 20 and 21 records are as follows...

Boston...June 20th 98F in 1953 and June 21st 95F in 1949

Worcester...June 20th 93F in 1953 and June 21st 91F in 1953

Boston has the best chance of breaking the current record on the 21st, while Worcester stands a good chance of breaking the current records on both the 20th and 21st.

A cold front will slowly slip through Southern New England Friday, but it will get hung up near southeastern Massachusetts until friday night. Consequently, there will be a slight chance of a few storms during the late afternoon hours, especially for neighborhoods located south of the Mass Pike.  This front will wash away the extreme heat and humidity.

The first weekend of Summer '12 is looking good.  Saturday will be sun-splashed and less humid as highs still remain mild around 80F. Sunday appears to start off dry but end up with a chance of late-day showers and storms.
