The Simpsons Say 'Being Right Sucks' After Predicting Trump Presidency
(CBS Boston) - 'Being right sucks. Being right sucks. Being right sucks.'
That was the literal message Bart Simpson was writing on the chalkboard in The Simpsons' ever changing opening credits for the show's first post-election episode on Sunday night.
The correctness Bart was lamenting was the fact that the show had predicted a Donald Trump presidency back in 2000.
Just in case it was unclear what that message was for the unaware, The Simpsons' official twitter left nothing for the imagination.
In the episode 16 years ago when they joked about a Trump presidency, it had Lisa succeeding Trump in office, saying: "As you know, we've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump."
Since that portion of the old episode had gone viral in recent time, The Washington Post's Michael Cavna spoke with The Simpsons' episode writer Dan Greaney.
"The story was really about Bart saving Lisa's presidency," Greaney said. "Lisa has a problem beyond her ability. [Trump] seems like a 'Simpsons'-esque figure - he fits right in there, in an over-the-top way ... He seemed kind of lovable in the old days, in a blowhard way."
A lot has changed over the past 16 years, naturally, including Trump's move from reality TV star to presidential candidate turned President-elect.
