'The Simpsons' To Tackle Trip To Boston, Lampoon Patriots In New Episode

By Matt Dolloff, CBS Boston

BOSTON (CBS) -- The iconic Simpson family doesn't venture outside their hometown of Springfield terribly often, let alone travel to real-life American cities. But Sunday, Oct. 9 brings a new episode of The Simpsons that will hit extremely close to home.

Titled "The Town," the newest Simpsons episode will follow the family as they go on a trip to Boston, a trip which Homer Simpson apparently calls a "hate-cation." Here's how the episode description reads, via FOX:

After Homer catches Bart rooting for Springfield's football rival, the Boston Americans, he plans a family "hate-cation" trip to Boston in an attempt to show Bart that Boston is a terrible city in the all-new "The Town" episode.

As if there were any doubt, yes, the "Boston Americans" are a direct parody of the Patriots, complete with caricatures of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and Rob Gronkowski.

The episode description implies that Homer will discover that Boston is indeed not as terrible a city as he imagined. Executive producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly that New England's time-honored tradition of candlepin bowling will win him over, which is not surprising given the producers' long-time fascination with old-timey American customs.

But surely, this will garner plenty of reasonable, measured, rational reactions from Boston's more protective citizens. Joking aside, hopefully most of us can handle a few harmless jokes at our expense.

Boston's own Bill Burr is listed as a guest star on the episode as "Townie," as well as Lexington, Mass. native Rachel Dratch as "Doctor." The episode airs Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET, after the Patriots play the Cleveland Browns at 1 p.m. and the Red Sox face the Cleveland Indians at 4 p.m..
