BOSTON (CBS) - Who can be blamed for problems in public education? The answers in a new poll may surprise you.

When it comes to deficiencies in American schools, who's to blame? An Associated Press-Stanford University Poll has some insight into that and points a finger closer to home.

What role do teachers, administrators and teacher unions play in the quality of public education? The AP's Shelley Adler has insights offered by the poll.

And are our children better off than we were in school? Adler looks at poll results on that question.

The AP-Stanford Poll on Education involved telephone interviews with more than a thousand adults nationwide and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
