How to save on college costs? How about saving a full year of tuition by completing the traditional 4-year undergraduate degree program in only three-years? More and more colleges are offering this option, including UMass Amherst. James Staros is the Provost there and he emphasizes a three-year degree is not a watered down version of the usual four-year undergrad degree.
But Staros emphasizes this isn't for everybody...there is a heavier course load.
Staros says the expedited degree would not be good for those students who want to study abroad, have a double major or do independent study. The number of schools offering the three-year degree across the country is growing and is expected to continue to increase.
