The First Boston Baby Born In 2015

BOSTON (CBS) -- Little Rylee Weigman managed a smile as her Mom explained how the newborn upstaged an induction scheduled for Saturday.

"She just decided she wasn't waiting," says Donna Hill. "And that was that."

"It definitely ads some excitement," ads father Spencer Weigman. "It'll be a story to tell when she's older."

Mom and Dad are talking about Rylee's arrival into the world at 12:43 Thursday morning, as maternity staffers at Mass General called around the city, and discovered the little tyke was Boston's first birth of 2015.

Mom was focused on other things. "It's still just surreal that she's even here," Hill says as she looked adoringly at her napping daughter.

Rylee is not the state's first baby of 2015. That distinction goes to Aleanis Mia Bermudez – born to a Springfield couple just five seconds into the new year.

"It ain't really that big of a deal to me," says Rylee's Dad, "as long as she's healthy."

And Rylee is eight pounds, four ounces of good health – who slept through her first television appearance and the banter of a standing room only crowd at her MGH bedside.

"She's beautiful," says Weigman.

"It's all good!" ads Hill.

The baby crib is ready in Revere, where Mom and Dad plan to be married soon – even as they struggle to describe that mixture of joy and fear that comes with being a first time parent.

"I don't know how to explain it," Weigman says. "It's a weird feeling."

And while their daughter's entry into the world might've been noteworthy, they know the chores ahead might not be.

"Like changing diapers," says Weigman – as his family and friends burst out laughing.
