The D.A. Show: Jonathan Kraft On Steve Nicol's Departure
New England Revolution owner Jonathan Kraft joined D.A. to discuss the departure of long time Revs head coach Steve Nicol.
On Monday, Nicol and the Revolution agreed it was time to part ways. So for the first time in 10 years, the Revolution will be searching for a new head coach.
"He was an exceptional coach, in his 10 year tenure we went to the playoffs eight years in a row and four MLS cup games," said Kraft. "I think over the last couple years, things both with our team and within the league had really started to change dramatically and we all thought it was time for the best interest of the Revolution to move in a different direction."
"He's a class guy, and somebody, there will always be a warm spot in Foxboro with Stevie," Kraft added.
He said Nicol's relationship with the Kraft family and Revs organization was still a good one, but they both felt it was time for a different voice to lead the way.
"I think the players responded until the end, and I think that says a lot about the guy as a coach," Kraft said of the Revs 5-16-13 season this year. "I think if he wasn't our coach, we wouldn't have had as much patience. But when you have the track record of the last 10 years, I think he earned the right to coach out the season."
Kraft said had it been another coach in charge, they would have made a change during the season.
