The Bear Essentials: Smooth Move Ryder
BOSTON (CBS) - Dammit. I forgave Ryder. I really did.
I got over the fact that he was a -1 during the regular season. I got over the fact that Claude Julien, a man who rarely benches anyway, actually made him sit for a game. I got over all of that. And now, with this recent incident, I'm left shaking my head. Again.
On Tuesday, Ryder was scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup to his hometown of Bonavista, Newfoundland. Prior to his departure, a small send-off rally was held in honor of his accomplishments. The former Boston Bruin brought the Stanley Cup for all to see. After carrying it out before a group of people, he placed in on what seemed to be a solid table. It wasn't.
Three seconds. That's how long it took. Three seconds and hockey's holiest trophy was on the ground. Seriously?

Come on Ryder! I know that you helped the team win and everything, but is this the everlasting memory that you want to leave us with? You'd expect a story like this to come out of Marchand's day. But nope, his was fine. He ate some cereal out of it and that's about it. Ryder, on the other hand, goes ahead and drops it.
I have to admit, I was a bit weary when the team traded him to the Dallas Stars. I felt that he could still provide a valuable asset to the team. After this, maybe it's good that he's gone.
