The Bear Essentials: Bruins Notes And Trade Deadline Grades
BOSTON (CBS) - Here are a few quick Boston Bruins and trade deadline notes:
- Zdeno Chara played four seasons with newly acquired defenseman Wade Redden in Ottawa from 2001-2002 through 2005-2006.
- Redden likely won't play Thursday when the Bruins host the New Jersey Devils -- according to Boston Globe.
- While Redden might not go, Kaspars Daugavins and JaromirJagr will be in line up Wednesday night.
- Patrice Bergeron suffered a moderate concussion Tuesday night and there's no timetable on a possible return, general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Wednesday. He did say Bergeron was "annoyed" after suffering the fourth concussion of his nine-year career, but in good spirits.
- A funny tweet from the Globe's Gary Washburn as Jagr arrived to the TD Garden on Wednesday:
North East Division Trade Deadline Grades
Buffalo: B+
Acquire: 3 seconds round-picks, a conditional fifth, Matt Hacket and Johan Larsson from Wild, first rounder in 2013 and second rounder in 2014. Buffalo needed a change, a drastic one, and they did just that.
Gave Up: Robyn Regehr, Jordan Leopold, Captain Jason Pominville and a fourth round pick.
Montreal: A
Acquired: Defenseman Davis Drewiske, but mostly stayed pat. Montreal leads the Conference in points, no reason to ruin the chemistry.
Gave Up: 5th round pick
Senators: B+
Acquired: Rookie third line winger Cory Conacher and a fourth round draft pick from Lightning. Conacher had nine goals and 15 assists in 35 games this season for the Lightning. With Ottawa struggling to score goals after the loss of Spezza and Karlsson, this move could be very helpful. Conacher becomes Senators leading goal scorer.
Gave Up: Goalie Ben Bishop. Senators had an abundance of goalies and this seemed like an inevitable move.
Maple Leafs: B
Acquired: Defenseman Ryan O'Byrne from Colorado. Leafs have developed chemistry this season and reinvented themselves as a tough force in the division. Although they came close to acquiring Roberto Luongo, his current contract proved too much for the Leafs to take on. Sometimes the best move is no move.
Gave Up: Fourth round pick.
