The Baseball Reporters: Do The Sox Really Want To Let Papelbon Go?

BOSTON (CBS) -  Wednesday night on 98.5 The Sports Hub's The Baseball Reporters from 6-7pm...

Tony Massarotti asks, "Do the Red Sox really want to let closer Jonathan Papelbon go?"

Papelbon, who has taken one-year tenders the past three seasons rather than work out a long-term deal, will finally hit free agency after the season. He is the Red Sox franchise leader with 208 saves and has 30+ saves in each of his six seasons as Boston's closer.

Pap has 20 saves in 21 opportunities this season, with his lone blown save coming back in May. The fireballer has a 3.93 ERA and has struck out 51 over 36.2 innings.

Speculation is the Red Sox may let him walk, but is it worth it for the Sox to lock up Papelbon, who will turn 31 in the offseason, to a long-term contract?
