The Baseball Reporters: 5/20 Recap
Dan Shaughnessy and Tom Glavine joined Tony Mazz on the Baseball Reporters Show today. Francisco Liriano starts tonight for the Twins in the final game of a 2-game mini series with Minnesota. Liriano is known to dominate lefties so David Ortiz is not in the lineup tonight. Lefties vs. Liriano this season: 6 for 39 with only 1 extra base hit.
Mazz has said it all along and Shaughnessy agrees that the DH spot should be platooned, despite Ortiz catching fire as of late. The consensus is that Ortiz should bat vs. right handers and Lowell should bat vs. left handers.
Joe from New Hampshire called into the show and argued that David Ortiz doesn't deserve all this unfair treatment considering all he has done for this organization. Warren from Nassua shares the same sentiment by calling out all the people who wanted Ortiz out of town when he was slumping. Mazz never wanted him out of town, he just doesn't think its wrong for us to suggest DH should be rotated between Lowell and Ortiz. Ortiz is just not the same guy and he hasn't hit left handed pitching in 2 years. John from Derry agrees with Mazz and says that the career years for Ortiz are in the past.
