Top 10 Sports Video Games Of All Time
BOSTON (CBS) - Less than one percent of all athletes get to play their respective sports professionally, so for the rest of us we tend to get our fix by grabbing a bowl of chips, kicking up the feet on the recliner and turning on the good ole gaming console -- video games, that is.
From Atari to the Wii, there has been no shortage of gaming systems to choose from. Thousands upon thousands of releases have fallen by the wayside, but some games -- whether modern or retro -- have withstood the test of time.
We're here to reveal our list of the Top 10 Sports Video Games Of All Time.
This is a comprehensive list with no room for debate whatsoever. Just kidding, I'm sure there will be some debate. But rather than harass me on Twitter, tell us which games we left out in the comments section below.
10. Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball
Ken Griffey Jr. was arguably the best baseball player of the 1990's, so it's only fitting that a video game in his likeness was created during that era. Baseball, with all of its nuances and intricacies, has never really translated well digitally, so the simplicity of this game made it one of a kind.
9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Skateboarding really went mainstream in the 1990's, and it's safe to say that THPS had something to do with it.
8. Tiger Woods PGA Tour
Tiger Woods PGA Tour brought "Golden Tee" from the side room of your local bar square into your living room. Be Tiger, Phil or just create yourself and start playing!
7. NBA Jam
Three words: HE'S ON FIRE!
6. Madden NFL
Last year Madden celebrated its 25th anniversary. It's safe to assume they are doing something right over there.
5. NHL 94
Bar none the consensus no. 1 overall hockey game in the history of history with its modest graphics and the introduction of the one timer.
4. Mike Tyson Punch-Out!!
Just a classic. You can have your Wii, I'll keep my Nintendo with games like this.
3. NFL Blitz
Best thing about NFL Blitz? No flags. No penalties. Anything goes. Good old simulated violence at its finest!
2. FIFA
FIFA the video game is so legendary that people from all over the world fly to compete in winner-take-all tournaments.
1. Tecmo Super Bowl
No matter how hard you tried, you simply could not stop Bo Jackson.
Honorable Mention: NBA Street, Fight Night, RBI Baseball, High Heat Baseball, Wii Tennis, Pong
