Boston Firefighters Share Thanksgiving Meal Between Calls

BOSTON (CBS) -- They have a full Thanksgiving meal, spread out on white linen tablecloths and prepared specially for them by the executive chef at Top of the Hub, an annual tradition.

"They're always there, they're always at our disposal, it's just right to do something for them," executive chef Stefan Jarusch said.

There's just one problem.

Right when they're about to partake in their Thanksgiving feast, the firefighters of Ladder 15 Engine 33 on Boylston Street get a call and have to make a run. They spring to action, and this meal will have to wait.

"That's the way it is here, when you sit down for a meal, a lot of times it gets broken up with different calls," firefighter John Howard said.

It's a busy firehouse, and the one that responded to last year's fatal Back Bay fire that claimed the life of two of its brothers, Lt. Edward Walsh and firefighter Michael Kennedy.

When they finally return from the call, the firefighters sit down once again to give thanks with their extended family.
