Thanksgiving Dinner Will Cost You 13% More This Year
BOSTON (CBS) - Still grabbing your groceries for Thanksgiving dinner? You'll notice some bigger price tags than last year.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens reports.
Prices for a Thanksgiving meal and all the fixings rose 13 percent, according to a survey by the American Farm Bureau Federation.
This year, the total cost of a Thanksgiving meal averages $49.20, up $5.73 from last year's total average price ($43.47).
WBZ-TV's Alana Gomez reports.
Frozen turkeys drove the overall cost of dinner higher with the price for a 16-pound bird rising nearly $4.
Dairy and pumpkin products are also higher, but that's not all.
Economists with the American Farm Bureau said the rise follows a trend of increasing prices on basic food items.
But, some shoppers said they're willing to make room for good food by cutting back on other parts of their budget.
"I'd rather give healthy food rather than something from Best Buy like an electronic," said Nikki Chenard.
