Texas Judge Cancels AG Healey Deposition In Exxon Mobil Case
BOSTON (AP) — A federal judge in Texas has canceled a scheduled deposition by a Massachusetts official who has been looking into whether Exxon Mobil misled the public about the impact of fossil fuels on climate change.
The notice Monday from U.S. District Court Judge Ed Kinkeade in Dallas came without explanation, and followed an earlier ruling from the same judge that would have required Attorney General Maura Healey to be deposed on Tuesday. Healey maintained the court had no jurisdiction over an investigation in Massachusetts.
The legal battle began earlier this year when the Massachusetts and New York attorneys general subpoenaed documents from Irving, Texas-based Exxon Mobil.
Exxon said the probe was politically motivated and asked a federal court in Texas to intervene and prevent Healey from pursuing the matter.
