Texas Child May Be Youngest Diagnosed With Type 2 Diabetes
BOSTON (CBS) - Years ago, we really only saw Type 2 diabetes in adults, but a child in Texas may be one of the youngest children ever diagnosed with the disease.
The 3-year old developed symptoms of diabetes but instead of having Juvenile or Type 1 diabetes, she was found to have Type 2 diabetes. She was significantly overweight at 77 pounds and her BMI was in the top 5% for children her age.
Six months later, after dietary changes and increased physical activity, she had lost 25% of her weight and was able to get off her diabetes medication.
