Informant in Chuck Turner case paid $30,000
BOSTON (AP) -- Federal prosecutors have revealed that a businessman who took part in the sting that led to corruption charges against a Boston city councilor was paid $30,000 for his help.
Lawyers for both sides in the trial of Chuck Turner made their opening statements in U.S. District Court on Monday.
Testimony is expected to start Tuesday.
Prosecutors say Ronald Wilburn was paid by the government to hand Turner $1,000 in cash in August 2007 in exchange for help in obtaining a liquor license.
Turner's lawyer raised doubts about Wilburn's credibility in openings.
It is unclear whether Wilburn will testify.
He previously said he would not, although a judge has ordered him to take the stand.
Turner is charged with attempted extortion and three counts of making false statements.
